I took a cake decorating class today

My friend Kim taught a cake decorating class. It was so much fun! OH geesh, like I needed another hobby!!! It was so nice to get out of the house. Kim was a fantastic teacher.

This is my cake, after we put the second layer of icing on it. My blank canvas.

My cake. It was so much fun! I loved learning about coloring the icing, the different techniques and then putting it all to use.

A girl needs sparkly things! It's not much, but it was so much fun!

Now I get to make Jacob's birthday cake for Tuesday.

Halloween Treats

FRANKENBOX!!! I totally CASE'd this from girl3boy0 on Splitcoast Stampers. It was way too dang cute to pass up. My friend Lisa came over this afternoon and we made them. Coasters! He is made out of coasters and oval punches. How clever is that?

The lollipops are covered with coffee filters stamped with Papertrey Ink's Spooky Treats. Nichole had posted a challenge on SCS for us to use coffee filters. So here's my attempt. This is my gift for Carlie's teacher tomorrow at their Halloween party.

Since Carol has been dying to see my altered ATG, here it is!

Creative uses for tins

I'll admit.... I love tins! I was buying dishwasher soap like a madwoman when it was in they oh so adorable tins. There was a post on Papertrey Ink's forum asking about creative uses for tins. Here is what I had come up with...

Besides the nuggets some ideas I have come up with...

Toothfairy tins
Small note card kits
Memory game
Survival kits
Small first aid kit
Container for those small make up items like lip gloss and nail polish that walmart carries.
Photo tins - photos on punched shapes and strung together on ribbon
the tall tea tins for an 'over night' carrier... toothbrush, small toothpaste, etc.
a 'keep the kids entertained while traveling' kit
Baby announcements
Wedding shower favor gifts
baby shower favor gifts
Christmas tree keepsake ornaments
shadow boxes
Jewelry boxes

I'm waiting on an order from specialty bottle to get started on a few of these ideas.

Great online friends!!!

It has always amazed me how wonderful it is to have online friends. Or as my husband calls them "invisible friends". My life has been touched by so many people, from all walks of life and I appreciate them all. The friendships that can be formed over the 'net are as personal and real as those in real life. I love my invisible friends. *giggle*

Becky nominated me for a "you make me smile" award. HOW COOL IS THAT???

You have to check out Becky's blog. She is incredibly talented. I love her cards.

So, I nominate...

Carol - my not so secret sistah from the cricut message board. She has become an amazing friend.

I have a bunch of Halloween projects I have been working on. I need to take some photos and get them posted.

Last night was CraftNite (my favorite day of the week) and it was so much fun. I haven't laughed and giggled like that in ages. I just love what CraftNite has become. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

Have you seen GinaK stamps?

I was reading Gina's blog. I love her stamps (GinaK Designs). Make sure you check out the talent she has for a Design Team. WOWSERS!!!! And Gina's Stamps for a Cause are fabulous and $7 of every set purchased goes directly to the Make a Wish Foundation. Now do you need a better reason to buy stamps???? LOL

TGIF

What a crazy week. Bubba and Mads have been sick and so I am left sleep deprived. I have had great intentions of stamping this week, but that never materialized. I'm hoping my new Papertrey Ink stamps arrive tomorrow. If you haven't seen the new releases you should mosey on over there and check them out.

There are some great project floating around. I have some altoid tins that I want to cover with polymer clay. I just need to barricade myself in the basement and become one with my supplies. Maybe tomorrow I'll get some 'me' time. I need to work on Christmas gifts.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Partyin' with PapertreyInk - October 15th release

What a blast!! I hung out with the crew on the PapertreyInk message board as we not so patiently awaited Nichole's latest release.

And then to add to the suspense, their server was having issues and we had to wait even longer! I did end up getting the new Snowflake Serenade and Piece of Cake. As well as some of the really nifty clear frames! How cool are those?!!! Nichole has some great sample projects on her blog.

I love the PTI stamps. I also love how Nichole things outside the box with all you can do with a set. I love the fact that the Holiday Treats and Spooky Sweets have stamps that fit on the Avery address labels. And then, if that wasn't cool enough, you can wrap the Hershey nuggets with the labels and they are absolutely adorable!!!

I was tagged by Carol, so here are 7 facts about me...

1. I played volleyball in college. 2 years at the University of Washington and finishing up at Weber State. I earned my BA in Public Relations with an emphasis in graphic design and advertising.

2. My parents still live in the same town I grew up in. They have had the same phone number for almost 40+ years.

3. My husband is in the US Coast Guard and we are currently stationed in Kodiak Alaska. We are hoping to do another 4 years here (yep, I said 4 more years).

4. I LOVE LOVE LOVE STAMPS AND BEING CRAFTY (although that isn't really a little know fact, everyone knows!)

5. I have 3 kids who are absolutely amazing and make life so incredibly interesting.

6. I love to cook. I have 'dreams' of being a Personal Chef. (it's in the works)

7. I'm totally new to blogging and need to keep up with it more.

I have no idea who to tag.

Card Making Day was so much fun!

Yesterday was World Card Making Day. I hopped on over to Happy Scrappin' Scrapbooking and participated in their online crop. There were some really fun card challenges. I think my favorite challenge was a matchobook card. I used Witchie Poo from Stampin' Up!'s Best Fiends set. I just love her!!!

Stamps: Witch - Best Fiends (SU), Spider - Spooky Treats (PapertreyInk)
Paper: Basic Black (SU), Pumpkin Pie (SU), Green Galore (SU),

I also learned yesterday that you can use the Cuttlebug to emboss acetate/transparency sheets!!! HOW COOL IS THAT??? This is what I made...

I'm such a slacker!!! *sorry*

Gosh, has it been that long since I posted?! Life here on The Rock got busy. I am going to try to keep up with this a little better.

With the big kid back in school, I haven't taken much time to myself for my craftiness. I really need to. I miss it. When I escape to my basement it is a big stress reliever for me. I should do it more often. I have come to enjoy and look forward to CraftNite each week. Every Tuesday since the beginning of March we have gotten together. I LOVE IT!! It is my social time with great friends. I love what it has become.

Ok, so have you checked out HANNA STAMPS ??? SO CUTE!! And what a talented design team she has. It always amazes me. I think I 'need' those stamps!! She needs to play with the Bellas that reside in my collection. *wink*

I have been gearing up for my Handmade Gifts class. I have 4 projects that make great gifts. It is so nice to give something handmade for the holidays. These will make great teacher gifts as well. (I'll post pictures after I get the finishing touches on them)
